What is yoga nidra?
Yoga Nidra, also known as "yogic sleep," is a practice that combines elements of meditation and relaxation to help the body and mind enter a state of deep rest. To practice Yoga Nidra:
- Find a quiet and comfortable place to lie down or sit.
- Close your eyes and begin to focus on your breath.
- As you breathe, allow your body to relax and release any tension.
- Begin to scan your body from head to toe, noticing any areas of tension or discomfort.
- Bring your attention to a word, phrase, or image that you find calming and focus on it as you continue to breathe deeply.
- Continue to focus on your breath and the chosen word, phrase, or image for about 20-45 minutes.
- Gradually bring your awareness back to the present moment and open your eyes. It's important to note that it's best to practice under the guidance of a qualified teacher as well as to listen to guided yoga nidra audio recordings.
